This tune is intended as a companion piece to "The Bloody Sword". It wasn't actually concieved that way, but it was clear once they were recorded that these two tunes would be brothers forever. They're not linked musically or lyrically, but in attitude. (and they both have sections that remind me of "Kill Bill" and "Sin City" respectively, hence their titles) "The Smoking Gun" is special in that I managed to rip off Fiona Apple, Trent Reznor, Phish, Foo Fighters and Phantom of the Opera, all at the same time.
